Long Island, you were brilliant! (Although it was Memorial Day and, as we learnt, it usually is a very hot and pleasant weekend- not this year! We had to listen to the weather conversations (complaints) but we did endure!) So, yes. Long Island, you were brilliant but NYC kept calling our names. We packed our cases and a couple of hours later we were in a yellow taxi whizzing around in Manhattan, listening to incessant honking and rain drops. Even in the showers, NYC does not fail to impress! For our stay in New York City we decided to choose a hotel in Downtown Manhattan, away from the main tourist attractions but still offering you a perfect getaway to Mid and Uptown Manhattan- The High Line Hotel.
The hotel is located off 10th Avenue in Downtown Manhattan and it is close to two great places: High Line and Chelsea Market. You are just a walk away from Flat Iron, great coffee shops, charming and leafy streets. It is a perfect place to catch a breather in the concrete jungle. Check in was super quick and hassle free, waiting for the lift a little bit longer than expected, first impression of the room- wow! The next impression, and the next- wow! Great size, a well stocked mini bar and a huge, super comfortable bed.
The style of the hotel is boutique (my favourite!) and the rooms are decorated with attention to detail- from a retro phone with a traditional rotary dial, an old fashioned desk and a massive wardrobe to a flowery wallpaper. Oh, did I mention the bed? Will it be a surprise if I say that the bathroom’s décor was one of my favourites? The black and white tiles, a big bath in which you can relax after a full day of walking and all the cosmetics you need. Sewing kit included.
Once you unpack (throw the cases in the corner), you might want to grab a cup of coffee from the coffee bar downstairs or a coffee truck Intelligentsia and go for a walk. We headed towards Flat Iron and let me tell you it looks as in impressive in glorious sunshine as with its head in the clouds! Join me for more adventure in the Big Apple very soon!
