There are almost 19,000 restaurants, bars, cafes and eateries in New York City. That, essentially, means two things. Number 1: you will never go hungry and you will definitely find any type of cuisine you fancy. Number 2: if you’re anything like me, then you will have an extremely difficult time choosing where to eat! I struggle with choosing a dish from a menu, never mind deciding on a restaurant- 1 from 19,000! You will have to, and you will want to, eat and taste all that fabulous food that NYC has to offer. Every time we visit the city, we try new places. Of course if it is your first visit, you will probably end up eating in Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock Café as some point (recommended!) but venture into other, less touristy spots and you’re in for a treat! Take a look at some cafes, pizzerias and restaurants we visited during our last trip to the Big Apple. Hungry?
Friendman’s Lunch,Chelsea Market
75 9th Avenue
Chelsea Market is one of my favourite (if not the most favourite) spots in Downtown NYC. It’s a vibrant mixture of small shops selling everything from hand made clothes, bags, books, cosmetics, to foods from all over the world. It is also home to some great places to grab a cup of coffee, lunch or something sweet. Friendman’s Lunch is a perfect place for breakfast and lunch- choose from eggs, toasts, burgers, salads. All super fresh, served in no time and healthy.
Seafood Court, Chelsea Market
75 9th Avenue
If you are a seafood lover, anything from delicious sushi, lobster, oysters to fresh fish- it is imperative that you visit this little gem! Sushi is absolutely divine! Fresh, made to order, thoroughly satisfying!
The Wild Son
53 Little West 12th Street
If you’re dreaming of truly American breakfast consisting of fluffy pancakes, blueberries, waffles and maple syrup, then do not walk past an unassuming little place under High Line. We had our breakfast there the very same day we left NYC and let me tell you that if ‘leaving New York’s never easy’, then this kind of feast makes it even more difficult!
256 West 15th Street
With plenty of walking and sightseeing, you will need a quick pick me up at some point. If coffee is not your cup of tea (!), then you will need tea- obviously! MatchaBar serves delicious matcha tea in all forms from a matcha shot, matcha latte to a super healthy spin with a hint of turmeric.
Artichoke Bassile’s Pizza
114 10th Avenue
Grab a slice of pizza and go or grab 4 different slices of pizza and go! No nonsense place- you ask, you get, you are no longer hungry! A wide variety of pizzas and salads, affordable prices and a lot of cheese! How not to love this place?
The Cannibal: Hell’s Kitchen, Gotham West Market
600 11th Avenue
If you love Chelsea Market then you will fall in love with Gotham West Market food court when you need to satisfy your empty stomach! From gelato ice cream, burrito bar, noodles to probably the best, freshly made to order sandwiches. Don’t forget to try a pretzel too!
106 Mott Street
Somewhere where Little Italy blends with Little China is a very cute, little place called Sweet Moment where they turn your ordinary cup of coffee and tea into art. Just look how adorable these drinks look! You don’t want to destroy them…but once you take a sip, it’s all down hill because they are as sweet and delicious as they look!
I am sure that you will discover your own favourite spots in NYC- let me know! Any recommendations always welcome! Just one last thing my dear fellow travellers- when you’re hungry, you’re angry!
